Today's Reading
Isaiah 55:10-11

Thus says the LORD:
Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down
And do not return there  till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful, Giving seed to the one who sows
and bread to the one who eats,  So shall my word be that goes
forth from my mouth;
  It shall not return to me void, but shall
do my will,

achieving the end for which I sent it.
Reflection It doesn't take much faith to believe that when it rains, moisture will be brought to the earth. This is a scientifically observable fact; simple cause and effect. God's word, by whom all creation was made, is no less reliable. We can attest to this by the hope that the resurrection provides. God's word came to earth like a drop of water and as the Church has long held, Mary is the mystical rose, whom receives the divine "drop" of life giving water. Mary believed that what was spoken to her would come to fruition, even when it seemed against all odds. We are called to imitate Mary and in doing so we have the confidence that God's will may be done.

This assurance is a gift, which needs to be cultivated by each one of us. When we cultivate, we plant the roots of faith, which bring forth the growing stem of hope, and of these comes the crowning rose that is love. But we do not rely on our own power to make this flower bloom. God is the sower. He is the one who sends forth His word, and that word will not come back desolate, but will bring new and everlasting life. Our role is to have faith in that word.

Despite our circumstances, when we allow ourselves to be formed by God's word, we have the absolute certainty of that word bearing fruit in our life, because His word is life.

Even the chains of death could not hold God's word. Likewise, there is no situation in life which we find ourselves that His will is not done. Through every circumstance, we are further conformed to Christ, which is our ultimate joy. Today, as a means of cultivating a deeper faith, make an act of hope in prayer. No matter how you feel, tell God that you love and trust Him!
