A Commitment to Justice and Peace

A Commitment to Justice and Peace

  1. I promise to meditate daily.

  1. I promise to remember the nonviolent movement seeks justice and reconciliation not victory.

  1. I will walk and talk in the manner of love for God is love.

  1. I will perform service for others and for the world

  1. I will refrain from violence of fist, tongue and heart.

  1. I will strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health

  1. I will speak out nonviolently concerning any act of violence or injustice that I see, writing my congressperson or senator and participating in action that will bring about justice.

  1. I will remember that spirituality is the engine of social justice.

Contacting Your Government Officials

Contacting Your Government Officials

Federal Government

Contact your  US Senator and Representative

If you would like to be part of the debate on issues in the Federal Government, use the phone number below to get your voice heard.

Call 1-202-224-3121

This is a number that will be answered by a person, not a machine.  Give them your Zip code and tell them whether you want to be directed to your Senator or Representative.

They will connect you to the appropriate office and you can speak to a member of the office staff.

It is wise to have written out before hand what you want to say so you can read your statement or position to the office staff.  That makes it very simple.  Or if there is a statement that is being offered, for example, by the US Conference of Bishops that you agree with, you can read that statement.  Good luck, stay involved.  If you have any problems, get back to the Life and Justice Ministry.  Call Jerry or Jean Washko at 856-845-6944.

State Government

For issues facing the State of NJ, contact State Senators and Assemblypersons at:
www.njleg.state.nj.us

Click on the top bar “contact us” and follow the directions to submit an email to your Senator or Assemblyperson.  If you prefer to write or telephone, the address and phone numbers are available on that page as well.

Yet a another option for our State Legislators by email is the following:

For Senator: Sen (last name of Senator) @njleg.org  It would look like this if your Senator’s name was John Smith……  sensmith@njleg.org

For Assembly Person:  asm (last name of Assembly person) @njleg.org  It would look like this if your Assembly Person’s name was Mary Smith…  asmsmith@njleg.org

Be Aware

While the Holy Angels Life and Justice Ministry would not presume to tell you how to vote on any specific issue facing our country and state, we do hope that you would take the time to be involved as a devoted citizen.  At the same time, to make decisions we must be informed.  It is part of the mission of Holy Angels Life and Justice Ministry to offer to you what the larger Catholic Church is saying about specific social justice issues.  We would encourage you to be aware of what the larger wisdom of the extended Church is thinking.  Study it and then make your conscientious decision.  Be involved.

A resource for this purpose is: (USCCB) United States Catholic Conference of Bishops web site: www.usccb.org
